Food Pathogens "Bad Bugs"


Project

You are part of a team that has just taken over a chain of fast food restaurants located in the US and world-wide. You must develop a brochure to train your workers about food and water safety issues. The purpose of the brochure will be to provide an answer to this Essential Question:

How does freezing, refrigeration, irradiation, pickling, dehydration, and worker hygiene reduce food borne illness?


Task

You must create a brochure (using Microsoft Word) to inform your workers about how to keep the food, themselves, and the customers safe from food and water pathogens. Finding answers to these Guiding Questions (plus any other questions you may have) can help (put the name of the pathogen you are researching in the blank):
  • What is this pathogen?
  • How is this pathogen spread?
  • What are some causes of this pathogen?
  • What are the symptoms associated with this pathogen?
  • How can restaurants prevent this pathogen from spreading?

Your workers need to understand:
  • The name of the pathogen.
  • How the pathogen is spread.
  • What the effect the pathogen has on people.
  • What the symptoms are of an infected person.
  • How can restaurants prevent the spread of infection.
